Fashioned in cool, crisp white cotton, this timeless dress features intricate Saba and Spanish drawnwork lace designs as well as a sailor style "mudflap" back collar.
Saba lace, also known as Spanish Work, is a handcrafted art of needlework designs that began on the Caribbean island of Saba at the end of the 19th century. and grew into one of the leading industries on the island at the turn of the 20th century.
Dress is semi-sheer and the lace is cut out, so a slip will be needed to wear this piece. Slip is not included.
Dress fastens up the side with metal snaps and with a hook and eye closure at the nape of the neck. Half of the sailor collar also unsnaps to help with getting the garment on and off.
Total Length: 49"
** All measurements are taken on a flat garment and doubled **
Considering its age, this piece is in remarkable condition. It does have a couple of small minor stains (see photos), the most noticeable is on the back collar. There are a couple of breaks in some of the lacework, but no major holes. It is missing one of the hanging ball details on the back collar. Flaws do not detract. Still a sturdy, wearable, collectable piece. Priced accordingly.
