The imagery on this exquisite brooch looks as though it were plucked right out of an Alphonse Mucha painting, so it should come as no surprise that this is an Unger Bros. original.
Immigrating to the US from Germany, the Unger Brothers began manufacturing high quality sterling pieces in 1878. Their groundbreaking creative and intricate designs helped define the standard in Art Nouveau style and made them the premier manufacturer of Art Nouveau sterling silver items in the US.
Today, many examples of their work can be found in museums around the globe including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Fashioned in sterling silver and shaped into a pansy flower -- a symbol of love and affection -- this tiny masterpiece features a raised relief of a woman's face with long flowing locks wearing a headband or crown. It is amazing the amount of details they were able to capture in a piece of this size. It truly is a miniature work of art!
The back of the brooch is hallmarked with the Unger Bros. UB hallmark and it fastens with a C catch.
